"Told You So" 2019

95% Viognier from our Peanut Farm VY, Naramata

5% Sauvignon Blanc from Peanut Farm VY, Naramata

Beguiling aromatics draw you in with oodles of tropical fruit and honeysuckle and just a whisper of minerality to keep you grounded. Apricot and stone fruit build momentum, barrel ferment kicks in providing counter balance and weight, and fresh acid from the unseen partner (Sauvignon Blanc) lands this baby perfectly.

Winemaker Notes
2019 – A far more inconsistent and almost unheard-of growing season for the Okanagan. After a mild winter and temperatures as warm as 10 C in January, we thought winter was going out like a lamb … then February came. Temperatures plunged creating bud damage and inconsistent bud break. Cooler temperatures continued into the beginning of April, slowly warming towards month’s end. May and June were the second hottest months on record, and vineyard growth seemed to catch up after a slow start. Vigour was not an issue this year (in comparison to 2018) but with more moderate temperatures for July and August and no real heat spikes (which cause vine growth to shut down), additional canopy management was required. Warm and dry conditions continued into the first part of September. The latter part of September however, quite frankly sucked. Cooler temperatures and rainfall slowed the ripening of the fruit. Early varieties were lucky and finished early. Unfortunately, Viognier being a later ripening variety meant our vineyard crew was kept scrambling with green thinning (cutting off any fruit clusters that wouldn’t ripen in time) and ensuring the canopy had enough airflow to prevent disease, such as mildew and botrytis. October was dry and moderate until we were hit with an early frost which brought everything to a screaming halt but produced extremely concentrated fruit ... just not alot of it. Overall, the 2019 vintage was similar in growing degree days to 2018, but felt cooler and more drawn out as the warmer days came earlier on in the season. Expect a lighter, fresher style of wine…
Food Pairing Notes
Crazy good with apricot chicken tagine or veggie samosa’s with tamarind sauce. Or, if your feeling the love of BC spot prawn season, a simple garlic sauteed spot prawn feast!
